Key To Change director receives Seahawks-Delta Community Captain award

Quinton Morris of Renton’s Key To Change teaches violin and viola to students

Quinton Morris, of the Key To Change music program in Renton, has received the Delta Community Captain award from the Seattle Seahawks and Delta Air Lines as a “Captain in Education” in recognition for Morris’ commitment to teaching violin and viola to South King County students who may otherwise not have the opportunity to play.

On July 11, employees from the Seahawks and Delta surprised Morris with the award during a violin lesson, presenting him with a special football, were given a quick lesson on the violin and volunteering to prepare student registration packets.

From the Seahawks website, Morris’ students at Key To Change are “receiving violin lessons in an environment that supports holistic growth as students and individuals,” citing his partnership with the Seattle Symphony in developing a “Community Partnership for Youth Education.”

A video from the Key To Change Youtube page highlights Morris receiving the Captain in Education award and showing Seahawks and Delta employees the proper ways to hold and the play the violin. The video ends with a voice-over saying, “We’re proud of our founder Dr. Morris and appreciate the acknowledgement of our organization from both the Seattle Seahawks and Delta Airlines.”

Morris joins other Renton-based community leaders as a Delta Community Captain like 2023 recipient Robert Banks, who is the head security guard and basketball coach at Dimmit Middle School, and the 2021 Renton School District Captains Creed Nelson, Kristin Parrott and Connie Jourdan. Nelson of Lindbergh High School received the Excellence Award, Parrott received the Equity Award and Jourdan received the Service Award.

An acknowledgment of the Delta Community Award will be presented at Lumen Field on Sunday, Dec. 22.
