Local painting company celebrates 50 years with eye toward the future

Built by painters, for painters: Community’s longstanding SKIS Painting moves to Renton

As it celebrates its 50th year in business, award-winning SKIS Painting, a third-generation, family-run commercial painting company, is relocating its headquarters to Renton.

Established in 1968, SKIS has grown from a small outfit to more than 135 employees across two locations. Today, it merges into a new, single location, bringing all its employees under one roof again.

“We have loved being a part of the Kent community,” says Jeff Ficks, owner and co-founder of SKIS. “We are ready for this next era of our business, and to develop working relationships with the Renton community while we continue to serve our customers and clients from all over the Puget Sound.”

SKIS has been a unique part of Seattle’s development boom, lending their coatings expertise to commercial and renovation projects such as the Starbucks Reserve Roastery, Washington Hall, the Georgetown Squared office park, and the Southport office complex, currently under construction. They have built a legacy of executing commercial projects – from new construction and maintenance painting to historic renovation – with lasting results and professionalism. Their best clients and partners are some of the largest and most well-known companies from all over the Pacific Northwest.

A business with a vision, built on family

SKIS is committed to contributing to the positive development of communities in Seattle and beyond, beginning with the investment in their employees’ well-being – a commitment that shows in the company’s steady growth over the years.

Believing that a career in the trades should truly support your family, SKIS provides competitive compensation, a full benefits package, training and a defined career path.

“We’re a family-owned business built by painters, for painters,” says Jesse Ficks, a third-generation family member in the business. “We have made it a priority to put our employees and their families first and offer an unparalleled product and service. After 50 years, that hasn’t changed one bit.”

SKIS is committed to excellence and challenging the common notion of what’s expected of commercial painting, as a career and as a service. To learn more about employment opportunities with SKIS, visit www.skispainting.com/careers.
