An inmate in the custody of the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention died overnight, at the King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) in Seattle, according to a release from the county.
The inmate was found by staff during a routine security check at 12:01 a.m. this morning, Monday, Sept. 12
Staff responded immediately, initiating life saving measures and contacting Medic One. The inmate, a 49-year- old-man from Des Moines, was pronounced dead at 12:23 a.m. He had been booked into the King County Correctional Facility on Sept. 6 at 7:56 p.m.
A determination regarding the cause and manner of death is pending from the King County Medical Examiner’s office. Public Health – Seattle & King County is seeking permission from family members to release further details.
As part of the standard review process for jail-related deaths, the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention will be working with Public Health – Seattle & King County to conduct an investigation. Normal protocol also includes an independent investigation by The Seattle Police Department.
