Police arrested a 40-year-old man for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of marijuana, obstructing justice and driving while license suspended during an incident at about 1:18 a.m. Sept. 1 near Southeast 208th Street and 108th Avenue Southeast.

An officer in a patrol car spotted a green 1997 BMW eastbound on 208th Street at a high rate of speed, according to the police report.

The driver of the BMW continued southbound on 108th Avenue and then pulled into the Safeway parking lot in the 20800 block of 108th Avenue Southeast.

Police discovered the car had been stolen out of Seattle. When the officer pulled up to the BMW, the driver ran from the car and refused to stop when an officer yelled at him to stop.

The man started to climb a wall from the parking lot into a nearby apartment complex. He got part way up the wall, slipped down and started to climb again. The officer ordered him to get down off the wall or he would use a Taser to shoot him.

The man reportedly refused to get down, so the officer shot him with a Taser dart in the back. The man, who was about 5 feet off the ground, fell off the wall onto his back and was taken into custody.

Paramedics checked the man, who told medics he was fine.

Officers reportedly found a BMW key on the man as well as about 2.5 grams of marijuana in his pants pocket.

The man told police he did not steal the car, but refused to answer any other questions. Officers contacted the owner of the car who said the man did not have authorization to use the vehicle.
