Air Force flyover salutes frontline heroes in Puget Sound

Jets will depart Joint Base Lewis-McChord at 12:30 p.m. May 8 to honor workers on frontlines of COVID-19.

The 62nd Airlift Wing is taking flight to honor frontline workers at 30 hospitals and medical facilities in the Puget Sound area Friday afternoon.

Departing from Joint Base Lewis-McChord at 12:30 p.m. May 8, the flyover salute will feature the Air Force’s C-17 Globemaster III two-ship formation flown by the West Coast Demo Team.

The flyover salute is dedicated to first responders, medical personnel and all other American heroes at the forefront of the battle against COVID-19, the 62nd Airlift Wing wrote on Facebook.

The Air Force has provided a detailed flyover map and approximate time of the jets’ flight over 30 health facilities and notable areas of the Puget Sound.

Air Force officials are encouraging viewers to submit their best photo of the flyover for a chance to win a West Coast Demo Team patch and a signed photo from the C-17 Demo Team performing the flight. Photos for the contest can be submitted through private message to the 62nd Airlift Wing Public Affairs Facebook page.
