Justus Willott, a 22-year-old man from Auburn, was killed in a car crash on northbound Interstate 5 on Sunday, March 20, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The Auburn man was driving a black Volkswagen Jetta on northbound I-5 at a high rate of speed and passed a trooper who then tried to catch up to the vehicle, according to the Washington State Patrol.
As the trooper was attempting to catch up to the Jetta, the Auburn man made a quick lane change to the left and struck a jersey barrier, according to the Washington State Patrol. After hitting the barrier, the Jetta re-entered the freeway and struck another vehicle.
Both the Jetta and the other car eventually came to rest, blocking several lanes of traffic. Four out of five lanes were closed for around four-and-a-half hours, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The driver of the Jetta was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Washington State Patrol. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision, according to the Washington State Patrol.
