The first blush of primary election results Tuesday showed some interesting numbers in the Kent City Council, Valley Medical Center Commissioner and King County Veterans and Human Services Levy votes.

The first blush of primary election results Tuesday showed some interesting numbers in the Kent City Council, Valley Medical Center Commissioner and King County Veterans and Human Services Levy votes.

King County Elections will update the results each day at about 4:30 p.m. until the election is certified Aug. 31 by the Canvassing Board. The Tuesday results were showing about 15 to 17 percent of the vote.

Kent City Council races

In the Kent City Council race for Position No. 5, incumbent Debbie Raplee polled behind challenger Bill Boyce.

Boyce, who is currently serving on the Kent School District Board, had 2,618 votes and 34.87 percent to Raplee’s 2,036 and 27.12 percent.

Coming in third was Charles Lambert with 1,690 votes and 22.51 percent and fourth was Gwen Allen taking 1,135 and 15.12 percent.

The top two move on to the Nov. 8 general election.

The Position No. 3 Kent City Council race saw incumbent Les Thomas bringing in 3,566 votes and 47.10 percent.

Second was Nancy Skorupa with 2,236 votes and 29.53 percent. Jim Bennett ran third with 1,732 and 22.88 percent.

The open seat for Position No. 7 has Dana Ralph coming in first with 3,051 votes and 41.34 percent.

Second is Michael Sealfon with 2,431 votes and 32.94 percent. Third was Suzanne Smith, getting 1,863 votes and 25.24 percent.

The seat is held by Councilman Ron Harmon who is retiring from office Dec. 31 after two terms.

Incumbent Deborah Ranniger avoided the primary for Position No. 1 because she had only one challenger, Bailey Stober. They will face off in the general election.

Valley Medical Center Commissioner District No. 1

The race to fill longtime commissioner Don Jacobsen’s seat looks like it may get interesting.

Paul Joos came out on top with 9,347 votes and 42.88 percent and Renton School Superintendent Mary Alice Heuschel ran second picking up 7,627 and 34.99 percent.

Jim Grossnickle finished third with 4,732 and 21.71 percent.

Jacobsen is retiring after serving on the Valley board since 1993.

Veterans Levy

The King County Veterans and Human Services Levy was making the grade with 66.25 percent and 134,509 votes for approval.

The measure replaces an expiring levy approved in 2005. The funds would be used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder as well as provide mental health services and rental assistance.

The county will levy 5 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value or for a home valued at $350,000, about $17 per year.
