Help clean city park Sept. 27

Residents can help clear trails, pull weeds and plant plants from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 27 at Kent’s Turnkey Park, 23312 100th Ave. S.E.

The city of Kent is asking for volunteers to help with the park, as a local way to celebrate National Public Lands Day. Residents can park at East Hill Elementary School, 9825 S. 240th St., and ride a shuttle to the park, which has limited parking. The shuttle starts at 8:30 a.m.

Projects include refurbishing trails, removing ivy and other invasive weeds, planting native plants and other activities appropriate for adults and children.

Volunteers should wear gloves and sturdy shoes or boots and dress for inclement weather, as events take place rain or shine.

Hospice volunteers needed

Group Health is seeking individuals in the South King County area to serve as hospice volunteers, offering practical and emotional support to terminally ill patients and their families. Volunteer training sessions will take place Oct. 6 through 8 in Bellevue. Anyone interested in attending the training should apply by Sept. 19. Book sale coming up Sept. 19

The Friends of the Kent Regional Library will present their annual book sale Sept. 19 through 21 at the library, 212 Second Ave. N. Sale hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 19 and 20, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 21. Books cost 50 cents; videos, audio books and DVDs are $1 each. Proceeds benefit library programs sponsored by the Friends. Kent firm has coat drive

Sleep Country USA will have its Foster Kids Winter Coat Drive Sept. 29 through Nov. 2.

The Kent-based company is collecting winter coats to help keep the more than 26,000 foster kids in Oregon and Washington. New coats can be donated to any Sleep Country USA store and will be distributed among 20 Pacific Northwest foster care organizations. Use the Sleep Country store locater at www.sleepcountry.com.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
