Hearings on city plans Tuesday

The Kent City Council has scheduled public hearings for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Council chambers to take comment on the city’s 2009 budget and the 2009-2014 Capital Improvement Plan.

Council Chambers are located at Kent City Hall, 220 Fourth Ave. S.

Residents are invited to comment about what they would like to see in the 2009 budget. The city finance department prepares a preliminary budget balancing final revenue forecasts with expenditures before the mayor sends a proposed budget to the Council. Mayor Suzette Cooke is slated to present her budget on Oct. 7 to the Council.

The city conducts public hearings on its annual budget in September, October and, finally, November, before the document sees final action.

Also on Tuesday residents can comment on the Capital Improvement Plan, which includes numerous projects for streets, utilities and parks.

A balanced Capital Plan with updated priorities and available revenue will be incorporated into the annual budget.
