Candidates planning to run for office in the Aug. 4 Primary Election or the Nov. 3 General Election must file Monday, May 11 through Friday, May 15.

Candidates planning to run for office in the Aug. 4 Primary Election or the Nov. 3 General Election must file Monday, May 11 through Friday, May 15.

Five of the seven Kent City Council positions are up for election this year. So far, incumbents Les Thomas, Dana Ralph and Bill Boyce plan to run again. Brenda Fincher, appointed to a vacant seat after Ken Sharp resigned, will run to retain her seat. Deborah Ranniner said she will not seek office again. Bailey Stober has said he will run for Ranniger’s position.

Three of the five Kent School Board seats are also up for election, the positions held by Russell Hanscom, Karen L. DeBruler and Debbie Straus.

If more than two candidates file for a seat, they will compete in the Primary Election to determine which two advance to the General Election.

Online candidate filing is the most convenient option. Go to kingcounty.gov/elections/candidatefiling.aspx.

During filing week, candidates have three ways to file:

• Online starting at 9 a.m. Monday, May 11 until 4 p.m., Friday, May 15. Candidates may file online 24 hours/day.

• In-person from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, Monday, May 11 through Friday, May 15. Candidates who choose to file in-person use designated computers at the King County Elections Department headquarters, 919 SW Grady Way, Renton.

• By mail until May 15. Filings made by mail must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on May 15, regardless of postmark.

King County Elections will post an updated list of candidate filings at noon and by 6 p.m. each day until filing week ends.
