The city of Kent’s website is due for a major upgrade in the coming months, and the community is asked to weigh in with their preferences.

Visitors to KentWA.gov are asked assess the current site’s strengths and weaknesses, and the types of content they would like to see in the future through an online survey.

“Participants can easily and anonymously submit answers to a quick, 13-question survey found on the city’s homepage,” said IT project manager Tricia Callahan.

The survey is open until through April 28.

“Rather than spending a lot of time and money redesigning the site and then crossing our fingers that people like it, the city encourages residents, visitors and business owners to take this survey to assist us in gathering feedback on what everyone wants to see in the new website,” Callahan said.

Callahan says the city’s website generates more than 900,000 unique visitors each year and offers hundreds of pages of municipal information, including meeting minutes, agendas, forms, bill payment options, email subscription forms, parks and recreation registration, and more.

The Kent City Council agreed in March to hire Vision Internet, a California-based technology firm, to redesign and replace the city’s outdated website. Last updated in 2009, industry experts say the standard lifespan for a website is four years.

“We are very excited to work with Vision Internet on the launch of our new website. They bring with them expertise in government websites from a design and governance strategy aspect so we can ensure our site is not just amazing when initially deployed but informative and value add to our community 6, 12, 24 months from now.

“We are especially excited about the mobile home page enhancement feature that Vision Internet provides. This will provide visitors the ability to easily access information from their mobile devices,” Callahan said.

The city plans to launch its new site in the fall.
