Civil War markers to be dedicated at Kent’s Saar Pioneer Cemetery

A dedication ceremony that includes replacement markers for four Civil War veterans is set for 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6 at Saar Pioneer Cemetery in Kent.

A dedication ceremony that includes replacement markers for four Civil War veterans is set for 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6 at Saar Pioneer Cemetery in Kent.

The South King County Genealogical Society will dedicate replacement markers for Civil War veterans William Button, Elias Clark, Nathaniel Hoag and Lewis Warren.

Other dedications that day include new markers for Caroline, Edith and Johann Kasbaum; Mary and Hardin Lusk; Isaac and Nellie Parmenter; Benjamin Pittman; and Margaret Saar.

The dedication of an Unmarked Graves Monument and City of Kent Landmark plaque also are part of the ceremony.

The cemetery is at 91st Avenue South and South 212th Way near Winco Foods and Highway 167. It is named after former King County Councilman Peter Saar, who in 1873 buried his wife on a small hill on their property. During the next 76 years approximately 141 people were buried at the site.
