Closures on I-5 in Kent for Federal Way Link light rail construction

Part of the Federal Way Link light rail extension impacts a portion of the former Midway Landfill near southbound Interstate 5 in Kent.

Crews will need to close the southbound I-5 shoulder from milepost 148.7 to milepost 147.7 beginning Monday, May 4 through Friday, May 8 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for clearing and grading to create an access road for future light rail construction.

On Thursday, May 7 and Monday, May 11, crews will close the two right lanes of southbound I-5 in the same area from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. in order to install concrete barriers along the shoulder to provide construction access. All project construction work is done under stringent COVID-19 health and safety guidelines, according to a Sound Transit news release.

The Federal Way Link Extension from Angle Lake in SeaTac to the Federal Way Transit Center will open for service in 2024. For more information on the Federal Way Link Extension and to sign up for project updates, visit www.soundtransit.org/fwlink.
