According to a Washington State patrol release, a man driving recklessly killed a 36-year-old Covington man and seriously injured his passenger, a 37-year-old woman from Covington.

Trung D. Ngo, of Covington, was killed in the accident. Ngo and Cheuk Chann,  were traveling eastbound on State Route 18 when their car was hit head-on at about 5 p.m. Saturday, April 23. The collision blocked all lanes of SR 18 just east of Issaquah-Hobart Road.

Witnesses reported to the State Patrol two vehicles, a red Ford Probe and a green Toyota Celica, were being driven recklessly as they traveled west on SR 18.

The Celica, driven by a 26-year-old Pullman man, attempted to pass traffic on the right shoulder when it lost control and traveled across all the lanes of SR 18 colliding head on with a red Honda Pilot driven by Ngo.

The Ford, driven by a 39-year-old Tacoma man, lost control and rolled onto the shoulder coming to rest on its top.

Ngon died of his injuries after 9 p.m. Saturday while being treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and two others were seriously injured.  Chann was taken to Harborview with serious injuries.

The driver of the Celica was seriously injured in the collision with the Honda and was taken to Harborview.

The drivers are under investigation for vehicular assault and vehicular homicide.

This collision is under investigation and more witnesses are being sought.  Anyone who observed these vehicles or the collision should contact Detective Ruth Medeiros at 425-401-7719.
