Local firefighters responded and doused a fire that struck an abandoned house Monday night on Kent’s West Hill at South 272nd Street and 26th Avenue South.

There were no reported injuries. A dog was rescued.

According to the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, a passerby called in the fire at 10:26 p.m., at which time a Puget Sound unit arrived to discover heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the house. Hose lines were pulled, and an exterior attack was made.

A second fire engine from South King Fire and Rescue arrived and supplied the attack engine with water from a hydrant. Once the fire was knocked down, entry was made into the home and the fire was extinguished.

The house had a daylight basement and when the basement door was opened, a dog ran out unharmed and is being cared for by animal control until the owner can be found.

Two thorough searches were completed and nobody was discovered in the house.

Additional help was received from South King County Medic One and Zone 3 Rehab.

Belfor is providing a free boardup service to secure the home.

Puget Sound Fire is investigating.
