A fire reported shortly after midnight July 5  devastated a home in the 25700 block of 117 Avenue Southeast.

When Kent firefighters arrived, the two story house was almost fully engulfed in flames. A commercial truck in the driveway was also burning. It took responders approximately 30 minutes to fully control the fire from the outside before they were able to enter the structure. One home next door suffered minor damage from the radiant heat of the fire.

Neighbors reported that they did not believe anyone was home at the time of the fire and that was confirmed when the Kent firefighters made contact with the residents. Red Cross has been contacted to assist the family of five that has been displaced.

Because of the amount of damage to the home, investigators will wait until the morning before looking for a cause.

This was the second house fire in Kent in the last 24 hours. The earlier fire was caused by fireworks igniting the roof of a home and displaced several people. Investigators say that it is too early to say whether fireworks had anything to do with the second fire.

In addition to the Kent Regional Fire Authority, King County Medic One and the SeaTac Fire Explorers responded to the call.
