Ex-Kentwood High student arrested in connection with bomb threat at school

King County Sheriff's Office detectives said Monday they have arrested a 19-year-old former Kentwood High School student in connection with the emailed hostage and bomb threat March 29 to the Covington school.

King County Sheriff’s Office detectives said Monday they have arrested a 19-year-old former Kentwood High School student in connection with the emailed hostage and bomb threat March 29 to the Covington school.

Detectives served a search warrant Saturday on a house in Kennewick with help from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, according to a King County Sheriff’s Office blotter report. Two computers were seized as evidence during the search.

The investigation started on March 29 after a Kentwood official received an email that said to “be prepared for a blood bath” and talked of a “hostage takeover” and “the bomb I have planted.”

After receiving the threat school officials voluntarily sent students home for the day while police searched the school. Nothing was found during the search but police said the threat was still taken seriously.

Detective said the suspect was arrested, interviewed and released pending charges. The Sheriff’s Office said it will not name the suspect until charges are filed.
