Federal Way man dies in Kent I-5 motorcycle crash

Collided with a sedan along northbound I-5 early Friday morning, Oct. 10 near SR 516

A Federal Way man on a motorcycle has died as a result of a crash on northbound Interstate 5 early morning Oct. 10.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), at about 2:13 a.m. Oct. 10, on northbound I-5 in Kent approaching State Route 516, there was a fatal crash involving a car and a motorcycle. According to WSP, Aaron Wardrip, 50, of Federal Way, was deceased at the scene as a result of the crash involving a 59-year-old Renton man.

According to WSP, the motorcycle, a 2022 Harley Davidson FLTRXS, and the car, a 2008 Honda Fit, were traveling in lane two of five northbound on I-5 in Kent, approaching SR-516, when the motorcycle struck the car. According to WSP, Wardrip was subsequently ejected from his vehicle.

WSP stated that the motorcycle and Wardrip came to rest in lane two. The Honda Fit then came to rest in the gore point from SR-516, according to WSP. The roadway was blocked for five hours and 27 minutes. According to WSP, the motorcycle was totaled, and the Honda Fit had reportable damage.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and whether drugs or alcohol were involved is unknown, according to WSP.

“At this point it appears the car was not at fault for the collision. More details when we have them,” WSP Trooper Rick Johnson stated on X.
