A residential fire Monday night in Kent gutted the home, but its two residents were able to get out safely.
The home is located in the 10200 block of S.E. 228th St., and firefighters from Kent and Renton responded to it at approximately 8 p.m.
Kent Deputy Fire Marshal Don Barberie said the first fire crew arrived to find heavy smoke and flames, with about 30 percent of the home involved in the fire.
It took firefighters roughly 20 minutes to knock down the blaze.
The cause of the fire was determined to be a pan of grease that was left on a stove.
The house is uninhabitable, Barberie said, but added its two residents were able to stay with family in the area.
Barberie also said that as a fire-safety precaution, people should put a lid on their pots or pans when cooking with oil or grease.
