Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Brian M. McDonald to the King County Superior Court on Friday. He replaces Judge Laura Inveen, who is retiring at the end of August.
McDonald has worked for more than 25 years in the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Criminal Division, where he served as a senior deputy prosecuting attorney on both criminal trials and appellate matters, according a Gov. Jay Inslee news release.
McDonald was part of the team that prosecuted the Green River serial killer Gary Ridgway from 2001 to 2003. For the past seven years, McDonald has supervised the Homicide and Violent Crime Unit.
He served as a commissioner for the Washington Court of Appeals, Division 1 from 2008 to 2009. Prior to joining the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, McDonald worked as a civil litigator in Seattle and San Francisco.
He has served as a board member for Bellevue Youth Link, worked as an attorney adviser for Bellevue Youth Court and served as a mentor for Future of the Law Institute through the King County Bar Association.
McDonald received the King County Bar Association 2004 Outstanding Lawyer Award.
“Brian has a strong reputation among his peers and many years of experience in the courtroom,” Inslee said. “His talent, strong relationships and community involvement will make him an excellent addition to the King County Superior Court.”
He received his law degree from University of Michigan and bachelor’s degree from Stanford University.
