For the Reporter

Burien Fire Investigators are working to determine the cause of an apartment fire that took place in the 200 block of South 156 Street.

The fire was first reported at 1:33 p.m. Friday and started on the third floor of the three-story apartment complex. Fire departments from throughout the area responded to the call, including Tukwila, North Highline, South King Fire and Rescue, and the Kent Fire Department RFA. King County Medic 1 and the Zone 3 Fire Explorers also were at the incident.

When the first units arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from an apartment on the third floor. The one person home in the apartment was able to get out safely and there were no other reports of any injuries. Firefighters had the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes and were able to limit the damage to the one apartment.

Red Cross has been contacted to assist the family of three displaced by the fire.
