A 17-year-old Kent boy pleaded not guilty Monday to second-degree murder in connection with a shooting death May 22 of a 16-year-old boy at a backyard barbecue in Auburn.
James Anthony Mills entered the plea at his arraignment at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. He remains in the King County jail with bail set at $1 million, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Mills is scheduled to return to court June 20 when a trial date could be set or attorneys could ask for more time to prepare the case.
Prosecutors allege that Mills shot and killed Adrian Wilson at the Aspen Meadows Apartments in Auburn.
Prosecutors also have charged Gabriel Wilson, 46, the father of Adrian Wilson, with first-degree assault for firing shots during the melee.
