Park Orchard Elementary School students Alexis Thompson and Weang Weang have been selected to participate in the Writers in the Schools Student Reading and Celebration at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 1 at the downtown Seattle Public Library, 1000 Fourth Ave.Park Orchard, 11010 S.E. 232nd St., was the first Kent school to partner with Seattle Arts and Lectures to offer the Writers in the Schools program.Thompson and Weang will read poems they wrote. The free event, which is open to the public, features elementary and middle school students from the Seattle area.Park Orchard joined the Writers in the Schools program for the 2009-2010 school year. Each school in the program houses a professional writer in resident who visits classrooms once a week.
