A Kent Fire investigator has determined that a fire that damaged several storage units in an apartment complex in the 400 block of Novak Lane was intentionally set.
Firefighters from the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority were dispatched to a possible apartment fire at 6:52 p.m. Tuesday and found flames coming from a detached building divided into four storage units used by residents.
Although the fire was contained to one unit, smoke and heat damaged the contents of an adjacent unit as well. Fortunately, the units were fully compartmentalized with no common attic. This kept the fire in the single unit and prevented the fire’s spread.
The person or persons who set the fire broke into the storage unit through a common wall from the unit next to it that was unoccupied and unlocked. The investigator has information on a person of interest in the case.
None of the apartments was affected by the fire, there were no injuries and no one was displaced. There is no damage estimate at this time.
All of the renters whose possessions were affected have been contacted by the Kent Fire Department RFA.
