Puget Sound Fire responds June 10-12 to camper, house and apartment fires; no injuries

Firefighters fought three fires in a three-day period in Kent, including a downtown camper, an East Hill residence and a Valley apartment.

Nobody was reportedly injured in any of the fires.

Firefighters responded at about 9:33 a.m. Thursday, June 12 to a camper fire next to a residence in the 300 block of First Avenue South in downtown Kent, according to a June 12 email from Kent-based Puget Sound Fire spokesperson Pat Pawlak.

Firefighters arrived and found the camper engulfed in flames. The fire extended to the exterior of the residence but did not damage the interior. Firefighters extinguished the fire in approximately 20 minutes.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation,” Pawlak said.

At about 11:28 a.m. June 11, firefighters were dispatched to a residential fire in the 27200 block of 121st Avenue SE. Firefighters arrived and found an exterior fire that had extended into the attic space. Firefighters extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes.

“This fire was caused by poorly discarded smoking materials, outside of the house,” Pawlak said.

Puget Sound Fire responded at about 10:12 a.m. June 10 to an apartment fire in the 22400 block of 88th Avenue South. One person was at home at the time of the fire, Pawlak said.

Firefighters found a fire in the first floor unit. Two sprinkler heads activated and contained the fire and firefighters extinguished the remaining fire.

“The cause of this fire is accidental and under investigation,” Pawlak said.
