Kent Interim Police Chief Mike Painter is one of three finalists to be the new police chief in Peoria, Ariz.

Peoria city officials plan to interview Painter and the other two finalists Jan. 10-11 and have a new chief by mid-to-late March, according to the Arizona Republic newspaper.

Current Peoria Police Chief Larry Ratcliff will retire Feb. 1.

The other finalists are Denton (Texas) Police Chief Roy Minter and Broken Arrow (Okla.,) Police Chief Todd Wuestewald. More than 60 people applied for the job.

Painter was named interim chief last month in Kent after Steve Strachan left to be chief deputy of the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Painter, who has worked in Kent since 1980, was one of five finalists in November to be the Olympia Police Chief but did not get the job.
