A vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian Monday night, April 21 in Kent in the 900 block of Central Avenue South, just north of South 259th Street.
The impact from a southbound vehicle caused a 45-year-old Kent man to be thrown off the road and into a fence, according to a Tuesday, April 22 Kent Police news release.
An officer on patrol at about 8:47 p.m. came across the collision just after the man was hit. The officer checked the man for injuries and noted that he was still breathing, according to police. The officer called for medics who quickly arrived and began lifesaving aid, but the man did not survive.
A witness who had been following the involved vehicle said that the pedestrian had crossed from the middle turn lane into the southbound lane and was struck when the vehicle was unable to stop, according to police. The involved driver, a 68-year-old Auburn man, stopped and waited for police to arrive. He was cooperative with the investigation, including tests for determining if he was under the influence of any intoxicants. The initial evidence gathered led officers to believe that intoxicants were not a factor in the collision.
The Kent Police Traffic Unit responded to take over the investigation. The King County Medical Examiner’s Officer will determine the cause of death and release the identity of the man.
