The Washington State Patrol arrested a 22-year-old Kent man for investigation of vehicular homicide after he reportedly crashed into and killed a motorcyclist along Interstate 90 near Ellensburg.
Three vehicles were traveling at about 8:53 p.m. Sunday, May 4 westbound along I-90, about 6 miles west of Ellensburg, according to the State Patrol. A vehicle driven by the Kent man struck the rear of a motorcycle, driven by a 63-year-old Seattle man, who died at the scene. A third vehicle also struck the motorcycle. The Kent man and driver of the third vehicle were not injured.
The State Patrol reported that drugs or alcohol were involved and listed driving under the influence (DUI) as the cause of the crash.
The Kent man faces a preliminary appearance Monday afternoon, May 5 in Kittitas County Superior Court, according to court records. He remained in custody Monday at the Kittitas County Corrections Center, according to jail records, which listed the man with a Bellevue hometown while the State Patrol had a Kent hometown.
The Kent Reporter is not yet naming the man because he has not been formally charged. The name of the Seattle man has not yet been released.
