Kent man charged with assault for stabbing at Panther Lake apartment | Update

King County prosecutors charged a 30-year-old Kent man Thursday with second-degree assault in connection with an Oct. 17 stabbing of his roommate at a Panther Lake apartment.

King County prosecutors charged a 30-year-old Kent man Thursday with second-degree assault in connection with an Oct. 17 stabbing of his roommate at a Panther Lake apartment.

Rashaan S. Williams, also known as Rashaan Freeland, is scheduled to be arraigned on the second-degree assault charge Nov. 3 at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Williams remained in custody Friday at the RJC jail with bail set at $75,000.

A 25-year-old Kent man suffered injuries to his face and head after Williams allegedly attacked him with his fists and a kitchen knife at the Ridge at Panther Lake apartments, 20611 108th Ave. S.E., according to charging papers. Paramedics transported the man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where his treatment included intubation, which is the insertion of a tube into a person for ventilation.

Williams allegedly attacked the man as he sat on a couch in the apartment. The 25-year-old man reportedly complained to Williams that he took too much time in the bathroom and made everyone late for work, according to what the man told a friend after the stabbing.

The girlfriend of the 25-year-old man also lives in the apartment and is the brother of Williams. She loaded her boyfriend into her vehicle and was in the process of driving him from the apartment when officers arrived. The man did not cooperate with officers and refused to speak with them.

The 25-year-old man later told detectives he recalled being in an altercation but could not remember the details because he had been sedated as part of his medical treatment. He declined to pursue charges or provide a recorded statement.

When officers approached the apartment to talk to Williams, he refused to come out of the unit. Officers were able to obtain a key to the apartment, entered and found Williams inside.

Williams reportedly had blood on his shoes and pants. He told detectives he needed to defend himself.
