King County Sheriff’s Office detectives continued Tuesday to try to figure out the shooters during a July 17 gunfight at Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah where a 33-year-old Kent man and a 30-year-old Seattle man were shot to death.
Two other men and a teenage boy also were shot and a fourth man was beaten after the shooting, but none have life-threatening injuries, according to a July 20 Sheriff’s Office media release.
No arrests have been made in connection with the deaths.
The Kent man has been identified as Yang Keovongphet and the Seattle man as Justin M. Cunningham by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. Both men died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Detectives have recovered four handguns and 25 spent cartridges in connection with the shooting. Two of the guns were in a car stopped by deputies leaving the park. One gun was found in a marsh area near picnic tables. The fourth gun was found near the body of Cunningham.
Detectives do not know who shot Keovongphet or Cunningham, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman John Urquhart. The State Patrol Crime Lab is analyzing ballistic evidence.
The three injured shooting victims are a 20-year-old North Bend man, a 22-year-old Seattle man and a 16-year-old Renton boy. They were all treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The Sheriff’s Office did not release the age or hometown of the man beaten after the shooting.
Detectives are interviewing witnesses in an effort to find out what led to the shooting and who fired the guns.
