Have you ever wondered what goes into being a Kent Police officer?
Perhaps you’re curious about the training or what the requirements are for being a law enforcement officer. The Kent Police Department is inviting residents to join officers for an informative series of classes about law enforcement.
Classes will start on Wednesday evening, March 28 and run for a six-week period.
The series of free classes will cover topics including recruitment, training new police officers, rules that regulate the use of force, community education and crime prevention as well as patrol operations.
Members of specialized units such as SWAT, K9, traffic enforcement, narcotics and gang enforcement teams will also provide insight about their unit operations. An optional Saturday session will be offered for a tour of the Valley Communications 911 Center and the City of Kent Corrections Facility.
Community members that live, work or are interested in the city of Kent are invited to register for the Kent Community Police Academy. Classes run from 7-9 p.m. each Wednesday. All classes are held at the Police and Fire Training Center, 24611 116th Ave S.E., on Kent’s East Hill.
Kent Police officers will be available by 6:30 p.m. each session to answer questions and discuss current events involving law enforcement. Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions and resolve concerns or myths they may have developed over the years.
