A Kent Police officer shot and injured a man after he reportedly rammed a police vehicle and attempted to escape custody.
The Valley Independent Investigative Team released further information on Friday, May 14 about the May 10 shooting at the Homestead Apartments, 20621 108th Ave. SE, in the Panther Lake area.
At about 9:40 p.m., officers were attempting to arrest a man during a stolen vehicle investigation, according to the update. He was struck by gunfire after allegedly ramming a police car.
Officers performed live-saving measures on the man until relieved by medical personnel. The man was conscious and alert before paramedics transported him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. No officers were injured.
Kent Police placed the officer who fired his weapon on administrative leave.
No information was released about the age and hometown of the man shot, how many shots were fired or where the man was shot. There also was no update about his condition.
The Valley Independent Investigative Team is a multi-agency group of investigators from seven South King County police departments (Auburn, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, Port of Seattle and Tukwila). The Kent Police Department is excluded from this investigation because they were the involved agency.
The Valley Independent Investigative team is in contact with the family of the man involved in this incident and will be keeping them informed of the progress of the investigation.
Public notifications will be released weekly until the conclusion of the investigation.
Per Washington Administrative Code chapter 139-12, information regarding any officer involved shooting can only be released by an independent investigation team after first notifying the non-law enforcement community representative assigned to the investigation and the family liaison of the involved subject.
