Kent Police fired a Taser to stop a man and arrested him for investigation of obstructing a police officer after he allegedly ran from an officer who tried to handcuff him.
Two officers were on bicycle patrol June 17 in downtown Kent near the 600 block of Railroad Avenue when they heard yelling from a nearby gas station parking lot, according to the police report.
The man had been yelling at a woman that was with him.
Officers talked to the man and discovered he had warrants from Enumclaw for obstructing police, from the King County Sheriff’s Office for vehicular assault, from Pacific for driving while license suspended and from Federal Way for third-degree theft.
An officer started to handcuff the man when the man broke free and ran through a parking lot. He kept running until coming up to a fence where he stopped and put his hands in the air.
An officer told the man to get on the ground, but he reportedly took a step toward the officer who then fired a Taser at the man’s chest. The man fell to the ground and officers handcuffed him.
The man told police he ran because he didn’t want to go to jail.
Police also noticed the man had a Taser dart embedded in the left cheek of his face. Officers took him to the Valley Medical Center in Renton to have the dart removed before taking him to jail.
Disturbing the peace
Police arrested a man for investigation of disturbing the peace after he reportedly ran up to cars screaming and swinging his fists June 16 at the intersection of Southeast 256th Street and 104th Avenue Southeast on the East Hill.
The man approached cars and screamed at the occupants with his fists clenched above his head and swinging his hands toward cars, according to the police report.
He walked out in front of one car that had to stop in order not to hit the man. Officers were unable to decipher what the man yelled except they heard a couple of expletives.
The man kneeled down when police approached him and starting to throw coins he held in his fists. He told officers he was upset because a woman was supposed to buy him a hamburger but did not come through with the meal.
Officers arrested the man for disturbing the peace because he disrupted traffic, intimidated motorists and committed a noise disturbance with his yelling.
Assault
Police arrested a woman for fourth-degree assault after she allegedly pushed another woman during a dispute at about 9:30 p.m. June 18 in the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center parking garage.
The two women knew each other and were friends until a dispute a couple of months ago over the same love interest, according to the police report.
The woman who was pushed into the wall told officers that the other woman had threatened bodily harm to her with phone calls over the last two months.
Regional Justice Center employees saw the dispute between the two women and broke it up. The woman who was arrested told officers she did not push the other woman, but a witness saw the woman push the other woman.
Drugs
Police arrested a man for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest at about 10:10 a.m. June 16 at the parking lot of a car stereo store in the 23400 block of Pacific Highway South.
Officers responded to a report of man smoking drugs in a vehicle parked at the store, according to the police report.
An officer pulled up behind the car and saw the man lift a glass pipe as well as a lighter. The officer then opened the passenger door and told the man he was under arrest.
The man allegedly tried to close the car door before the officer pulled the man out of the vehicle, took him to the ground and handcuffed him.
When the officer asked the man what he was smoking, the man replied “only marijuana.”
