Kent Police arrested a 35-year-old Kent man at an Auburn apartment complex for the March 21 fatal shooting of a Tukwila man at a Kent parking lot.

The Valley SWAT unit took the man into custody without incident on Tuesday, June 22, according to a Kent Police statement on June 24.

Detectives conducted an intense months-long investigation to locate the suspect, who had fled immediately following the shooting, according to police.

Avery Wilcox Jr., 27, died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police were dispatched at about 10:20 p.m. to a shooting March 21 at a parking lot in the 10400 block of SE Kent Kangley Road.

Officers found Wilcox inside his locked vehicle, according to police. Officers breached the window and removed Wilcox to assess his injuries. They saw that he had been shot in the head.

Multiple witnesses were present near the shooting and provided information to officers. Officers located a person of interest, associated with the shooter, shortly after the shooting and detained that person for questioning. The suspect is known to the victim, so it was not a random incident, police said.

Wilcox worked as a barber at Nine Thousand Hair Studio in Tukwila, according to Facebook posts by Wilcox and his friends. Wilcox referred to himself as Mr. Barber on his Facebook page. Wilcox played football at Foster High School in Tukwila and graduated in 2012, according to maxpreps.com.
