Kent Police arrested a 24-year-old Seattle woman for investigation of vehicular assault, felony eluding and two counts of hit and run after the driver sped away from a routine traffic stop.

The driver ended up in two separate collisions with other vehicles during the chase that began at about 10 a.m. Tuesday when an officer attempted to pull the woman over for a traffic infraction, according to a Kent Police media release.

The suspect vehicle struck another vehicle at the intersection of Southeast 256th Street and 104th Avenue South. The woman then fled from that collision and headed westbound on Southeast 256th Street before driving into oncoming traffic, losing control of her vehicle and hitting another vehicle head-on in the 9400 block of Canyon Drive.

A 37-year-old Kent man suffered life-threatening injuries in the second collision. Paramedics transported the man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Doctors performed emergency surgery and the man is expected to survive, said Kent Police spokeswoman Melanie Frazier.

Paramedics treated the woman driver for minor injuries. The driver hit in the first collision was not injured.

Police shut down both lanes of travel along Canyon Drive for several hours to investigate the accidents.
