Kent Police arrest woman in domestic violence case after 4-hour standoff

27-year-old woman reportedly attacked husband, father-in-law Monday, July 22

After about an four-hour standoff, Kent Police arrested a 27-year-old Kent woman for investigation of unlawful imprisonment domestic violence (DV), two counts of fourth-degree assault DV and two counts of interfering with reporting of a DV.

Officers were dispatched at 10:20 a.m. Monday, July 22 to a home in the 24000 block of 94th Avenue South regarding a domestic violence assault, according to a Kent Police news release. The 911 caller said that his wife allegedly had assaulted him and tried to break his phone. The husband, 47, of Kent, left the residence to call 911 from a neighbor’s house and wait for contact with officers. The husband called back a short time later to relay that his elderly father was still in the home and was possibly unable to leave.

Multiple officers arrived at the scene and determined that the elderly father was now outside the home, but the woman had not exited. The man’s father, a 73-year-old Kent man, said that his daughter-in-law had initially not allowed him to leave the residence and reportedly had assaulted him several times, according to police. He fled when she left him unattended for a few minutes. The father and son both had obvious injuries and were treated at the scene, according to police.

Officers secured a perimeter around the home and made numerous attempts via text, phone calls and loudspeaker to contact the woman, but she did not respond, according to police.

Officers authored a search warrant which was later approved by a judge. Due to the report that there might be weapons in the home, a police drone was sent into the residence to determine the location of the suspect. The police activity woke her up, and after additional announcements via loudspeaker, the woman finally exited the home at 2:30 p.m. without incident.

Police transported the woman to the King County jail, where she was booked.

Detectives will be investigating the circumstances that led up to the incident.
