A Kent Police car struck a 13-year-old girl crossing the street at about 8:09 p.m. Tuesday in the 27100 block of 132nd Avenue Southeast on the East Hill.

Paramedics transported the girl to a local hospital but her injuries did not appear to be serious, according to a Kent Police media release.

The officer was responding to a routine call in the 27400 block of 132nd Avenue Southeast when the collision occurred.

Witnesses said the girl was crossing the street westbound, about 70 feet north of the signalized crosswalk and against the green light for southbound traffic. The girl suddenly emerged from between two stopped vehicles in the left turn lane and in front of the southbound police car.

The officer attempted to stop, but struck the girl in the middle of the southbound lane.
