Kent Police catch, arrest armed man during burglary at Kent RV

Officer took the Seattle man to the ground during foot pursuit

Kent Police arrested a 28-year-old armed Seattle man for investigation of first-degree burglary and other crimes after reportedly catching him during a burglary in process at Kent RV, 22401 88th Ave. S.

Officers were dispatched at about 4:13 a.m. Nov. 2 to a commercial burglary in process at Kent RV, according to a Nov. 8 Kent Police statement.

Witnesses advised that burglars were jumping a fence on one side of the lot. Officers arrived to stop the escape. When the Seattle man reportedly refused commands to stop during a foot pursuit, an officer took the man to the ground, according to police.

The man was reportedly grabbing for his waistline as he and the officer went to the ground, according to police. Once they landed, an officer located a handgun next to the man as they struggled. The officer used tactics to remove the gun from the man’s reach.

Two additional officers assisted in controlling and handcuffing the man, who was aggressive and uncooperative, according to police. Police later determined the handgun to be loaded with one in the chamber.

The man had a no bail felony warrant from the state Department of Corrections for escaping community custody on a second-degree assault charge. His criminal history showed multiple prior felony charges for second-degree assault, second-degree burglary, bail jumping, possession of stolen property, unlawful possession of a firearm and second-degree theft. He is ineligible to own a firearm based on this history.

Officers booked the man, who is facing additional charges for first-degree burglary, false statements and another unlawful possession of a firearm.

The investigation continues to locate the second suspect who fled during the fight.
