A Kent Police K-9 unit helped find and catch a man fleeing on foot from the Washington State Patrol.
At about 3 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, officers were notified that a trooper was in foot pursuit in Kent, according to an Oct. 14 Kent Police Facebook post.
A man reportedly had fled from a traffic stop for reckless driving, bailed from his vehicle and ran along First Avenue South, according to police. Multiple Kent Police officers and State Patrol troopers responded and set a perimeter around the area.
A Kent Police K-9 unit of Officer Matthew Flesher and Gambit responded. After warnings that a K9 was about to search and no response from the suspect, Gambit was told to “seek,” according to police. Gambit followed the man’s scent to a back yard fence line. The suspect reportedly tried to hide himself better in some nearby bushes when an officer spotted the man.
Officers called the man out from his hiding spot and took him into custody without incident, according to police.
Troopers arrested the man for investigation of reckless driving, eluding, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle and DUI.
