Kent Police seek public’s help in reported sexual assault

Allegedly occurred Tuesday, April 22 along a trail near the water at Lake Fenwick Park

Kent Police are asking for the public’s help to help solve a reported sexual assault at Lake Fenwick Park, 25828 Lake Fenwick Road.

The incident occurred between 3 and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 along a trail near the water, according to an April 28 Kent Police news release.

Detectives believe numerous residents were present in the area at the time, including joggers, dog walkers and fishermen, who may have witnessed the incident or interacted with the reported victim afterward, according to police.

“Investigators are urging anyone who was at the park during that time and observed anything unusual, heard anything suspicious, or spoke with the victim to come forward,” according to the news release.

Residents who live along Lake Fenwick Road, both north and south of the lake, are also asked to check their security cameras for any footage captured along the roadway during the stated timeframe, according to police.

If you have relevant video or information, please preserve it and contact the Kent Police Department Tip Line at 253-856-5808 or email KPDTipLine@kentwa.gov.

“The information we have currently, does not suggest that there is an ongoing safety threat to the public,” according to police.

Homicide at park in February

Earlier this year at the Lake Fenwick Disc Golf Park, Elijah J. Oceguera Bestgen, 24, of Kent, was found fatally shot in a wooded area along Lake Fenwick Road South.

Oceguera Bestgen died of a gunshot wound of head, according to the Feb. 10 King County Medical Examiner’s Office report, which ruled the death a homicide. Officers were dispatched at about 9:26 a.m. Feb. 7 regarding a deceased person found in a wooded area, according to a Feb. 7 Kent Police news release. Multiple officers and Puget Sound Fire firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 26113 Lake Fenwick Road S.

Officers found Oceguera Bestgen with a gunshot wound to his head and obviously deceased, according to police. The initial evidence indicated the man died the previous night or early in the morning Feb. 7. Kent Police have not yet made an arrest in the case.
