Kent residents can now go online to find out about criminal activity in their neighborhoods and throughout the city.

Kent Police started the new postings March 28 at www.kentcrimereports.com.

The program will provide users with a map-based resource to identify specific information about residential property crimes, thefts, and other criminal activity around the city, according to a Kent Police media release.

Information for the program is drawn from the 16,000 police case reports that are annually generated by Kent Police officers and will be updated daily. Information will remain available for six months although active investigations will not be immediately accessible.

Another feature of kentcrimereports.com allows members of the community to sign up for e-alerts that can notify them when a reported crime occurs in their area.

“The introduction of kentcrimereports.com is another important step in our commitment to create safer neighborhoods” said Kent Police Assistant Chief Pat Lowery. “This program will provide Kent residents with an increased awareness of what type of suspicious activity to look for and when to call 911.”

It is also anticipated that kentcrimereports.com will benefit the Neighborhood Block Watch Programs administered by the Kent Police Department’s Community Education Unit. While weekly crime trend and crime prevention information is already sent out to a network of 115 block watches in the city, it’s anticipated that the crime reports information will enhance the knowledge and awareness of residents, business owners and those that visit Kent.

For more information about the crime reports program or community crime data, West Kent and Kent Valley residents can contact Public Education Specialist Sara Wood at 253-856-5851. East Hill residents can call Stacy Judd at 253-856-5883.
