The Kent School Board will have a public hearing tonight to take testimony on the district’s budget for the 2010-11 school year. The board is scheduled to adopt the budget after the hearing.
The meeting gets under way 7 p.m. at district headquarters, 12033 S.E. 256th St., Kent.
According to a budget overview provided by the school district, the district is starting the year with a general fund balance of $19.748 million, and is taking in $252,099,913 in revenues, for a total of $271,847,913. It will expend a total of $258,684,477, meaning the district will be spending more than it is receiving for this school year.
The ending fund balance for the close of this school year is estimated at $13,148,000.
Dick Stedry, the district’s chief business officer, will be available to answer questions about the budget at tonight’s hearing.
