Kent schools closed Tuesday, Feb. 14 due to icy roads in some areas

District initially announced a two-hour delay

All schools in the Kent School District are closed Tuesday, Feb. 14 due to icy/snowy roads in some areas.

The district initially announced a two-hour delay but then decided to close all day.

“Out of an abundance of caution, all schools are closed today, Tuesday, Feb. 14,” according to a district statement. “The Administration Center is open. Please use caution when driving and be safe.

“With our district covering over 72 square miles, we have to consider all of our geography. Even though some (or many) of our main roads are clear, that does not mean that all of the side roads, neighborhoods, parking lots, sidewalks and walking routes are safe for our kids, families and staff.”

Federal Way and Tahoma schools also are closed Tuesday. Auburn, Renton, Tukwila and Highline each announced a two-hour delay.

Update

• There is no transportation, including out of district transportation.

• All school activities and athletics are canceled, including any community use events.

• All early and extended learning programs are closed.

• A.M. and P.M. preschool canceled.

• Community use of district facilities is canceled
