The Kent School District canceled school for the second consecutive day Tuesday, Feb. 4 due to icy roads.
“Thank you for your patience as we prioritize the safety of our students, families and staff when making these difficult decisions to alter school schedules,” according to a district statement. “Due to continuing icy conditions, all schools and the administration campus are closed today, Tuesday, Feb. 4.”
District leaders, maintenance, facilities, safety and transportation staff surveyed roads, school driveways and parking lots and sidewalks throughout the 72-square miles of the district before making a decision.
“Out of an abundance of caution and with safety as our priority, all schools and the administration campus are closed,” according to the district.
School athletics will be determined and communicated by athletic directors. Community use of district facilities is canceled.
Schools also were closed on Monday, Feb. 3 after snow fell in the district.
