The annual Game of Life Youth Conference will run Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 15-16, at Kent Commons.

The Kent Police Youth Board organizes the student leadership event that draws 300 high school and middle school teens to workshops about social media, impaired driving, drug and alcohol use, suicide prevention and other topics.

Kent Police support Game of Life that attracts students from the Kent, Auburn, Enumclaw, Federal Way, Gig Harbor, Maple Valley and Seattle school districts.

Participating schools select 10 students to attend the conference as a team, where they use what they learn to plan and implement a project focusing on key issues pertinent to their individual schools, according to a city of Kent media release.

The Kent Police Youth Board is a group of diverse teens dedicated to community leadership. Each brings unique life experiences, interests and perspectives to the group; creating a fun, powerful and influential impact on themselves, their peers and the community. Members are from middle and senior high schools throughout Kent.

Workshop speakers include:

• Jerry Blackburn, program manager for Substance Abuse and Prevention Services for Friends of Youth as well as a faculty member in the Chemical Dependency Counseling Education Program at Bellevue College.

• Stu Cabe, an energetic speaker with a fresh, uplifting message that appeals to students and teachers across the nation.

• Eric Munson, of Heidi’s Promise, is a prevention/intervention specialist who promised, after his daughter’s death, to talk about dangers that can come with drug and alcohol use.

• Luis Ortega, a motivational speaker who has shared his message on the power of possibility, empathy and positivity at over 200 schools, college campuses and conferences throughout the United States.
