Kent’s Stefano Langone in top 12 tonight on ‘American Idol’

Kent's Stefano Langone and the rest of the "American Idol" final 12 contestants will sing songs from the year they were born on Wednesday night's show on Fox.

Kent’s Stefano Langone and the rest of the “American Idol” final 12 contestants will sing songs from the year they were born on Wednesday night’s show on Fox.

After the performances Wednesday, the Thursday night results show is expected to eliminate another contestant. Ashton Jones had the fewest votes from viewers last week and was sent home.

Contestants Karen Rodriguez and Haley Reinhart also were in the bottom three last week based on votes received.

Langone, 22, a former Kentwood High School and Bellevue College student, gave an inspiring rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Lately” on the March 9 performance show.

Judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson each gave Langone positive reviews. He also received enough votes from viewers to move on to the next round.

The two-hour show starts at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The critic on Joe’s Place Blog, which analyzes “American Idol” each week, ranked Langone No. 9 going into Wednesday’s show and wrote this:

“Oh my did I loathe Stefano’s rendition of ‘Lately,’” according to www.joesplaceblog.com. “Though I think spots of his vocal were quite strong, I just was not in the mood for that arrangement. Either way, I think Stefano is doing a solid job of rising in the rankings in this competition, something that will only help him. However there are at least six frontrunners in the competition, and Stefano has a lot of work to do before he genuinely has a shot at the title.”
