Kent and other King County residents have done a lot of cleaning up of trees and branches after the snow and ice storm.
A total of 1,006 vehicles came to a free wood debris recycling event Jan. 28-29 at Russell Road Park, 24400 Russell Road in Kent, according to city officials.
King County will host the recycling event again from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 4-5.
The event is exclusively for wood debris from the recent storms. Stumps, logs and limbs no longer than 6 feet are allowed – no brush, leaves, grass clippings, sod or soil can be accepted. The event is open to all King County residents. People bringing wood debris are reminded to secure their loads.
To help speed up the unloading process, those hauling debris are asked to lay a tarp or plastic sheet under the material for easy removal. Waits were long at times last weekend.
King County Solid Waste Division Director Kevin Kiernan said residents have several additional storm debris disposal options available, including curbside recycling (yard waste cart) and commercial recycling companies that charge a fee for their service, but may prove to be more convenient for some residents.
The local commercial recycling companies include Rainier Wood Recycling in Covington and Cedar Grove Composing in Maple Valley
