For the Reporter

It’s never too early to start encouraging children to share.

For eight years, Montessori Time preschool students have sponsored children through World Vision. On Saturday, Nov. 16, Montessori Time School hosts an event, open to the public, where families can help World Vision while making a gift for a loved one.

“We have been sponsoring children in Africa for eight years,” said Rita Miura, Montessori Time founder. “I like World Vision because they have been doing it since the 1950s, and the money is going toward those who need it rather than administrative costs.”

For the Nov. 16 event, the donations will go to a livestock donation to help families become more self-sufficient.

“What has evolved is that instead of contributing money or food, World Vision is helping people become self-sufficient,” Miura said. “It’s not just one time. it will continue. You’re helping them to help themselves.”

Children and their parents will decorate jar lights, intended as gifts for family members and other loved ones. All donations will go to World Vision and Montessori Time will provide the materials free of charge. The suggested donations are: $8 for one jar, $15 for two, and $20 for three.
