For the Reporter

A man in his 20s drowned in SeaTac’s Angle Lake on Saturday afternoon, the Kent Regional Fire Authority reported.

Mohamed Ali, 28, died from an accidental freshwater drowning, according to a King County Medical Examiner’s Office reported released on Monday.

Dive teams from King County Sheriff’s office and the Valley Regional Fire Authority recovered the body about 6 p.m.

According to witnesses, Ali was seen jumping from a small inflatable boat into the cold lake where he immediately sank. People began looking for him and called 911. Firefighters and paramedics worked with witnesses to find out where exactly Ali entered the water using landmarks on shore.

Crews were unable to locate Ali for almost an hour, and the operation had turned into a recovery effort. Dive teams used sonar to find the body.

Ali was in his boat with another person. That person, who did not get into the water, cooperated with authorities as the search continues.

In addition to firefighters from SeaTac, the Burien Fire Department, the Renton Fire Department, and South King Fire and Rescue responded to the call.
