Sunday night at strip mall near Kent

Des Moines Police on Tuesday continued to look for a suspect or suspects who fatally shot a 31-year-old man Sunday night at the Redondo Square strip mall parking lot near South 272nd Street and Pacific Highway South near the city of Kent border.

A 911 caller reported the shooting at about 9:14 p.m. and that a man was laying in the parking lot with a gunshot injury, said Des Moines Police Sgt. David Mohr during a phone interview Monday. Des Moines Police and South King Fire & Rescue responded to the scene. Paramedics tried life saving efforts but were unsuccessful.

Police are looking for 1998 to 2001, four-door Toyota Camry LE which is tan or gold and was seen fleeing the parking lot and headed eastbound on South 272nd Street, Mohr said. Officers reviewed video surveillance footage from the area to get more information about the vehicle.

Anyone with information about the car or the shooting is asked to contact the Des Moines Police Department at 206-878-3301.

The man who was shot had been seen walking through the parking lot before the drive-by shooting, Mohr said.

“Not a lot of information has come out yet,” Mohr said. “We hope to put out more information about the vehicle.”

It is unknown how many people were inside the vehicle.

As of Tuesday, the King County Medical Examiner’s Office had not yet released the name of the victim.
